In this full sea trial and walkthrough, Jack Haines takes the helm of this 50ft IPS-powered Absolute 47 Fly to explore performance, joystick control, and driving ergonomics - plus a complete interior and exterior tour. If you're considering a sub-50ft flybridge, don’t do anything until you’ve watched this! Powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS650s (2 x 480hp), the Absolute 47 Fly is a planing-hull cruiser capable of 29 knots, with a cruising speed of around 22 knots. It’s relaxed, stable, and effortless to dock thanks to IPS joystick control at both helms, a well-positioned side door, and sharp helm ergonomics. Jack tests visibility, performance, handling, helm setup, and berthing - all from an owner-operator’s point of view. Inside, the 47 FLY features a three-cabin layout: a forward owner's suite with ensuite, a full-beam VIP midships, and a twin cabin with two proper side-by-side berths (not bunks). A shared day head serves the twin, and smart pocket doors maximise usable space. The aft galley sits at cockpit level, connecting beautifully with outdoor dining and creating a functional, sociable main deck. Saloon seating, panoramic glazing, and excellent ventilation all enhance the liveaboard feel. Outside, the flybridge layout includes a full wet bar, convertible sunpads, and generous seating. There’s also a hydraulic bathing platform, walk-around decks, and a clever convertible foredeck lounge. But the highlight of this yacht is how easy it is to drive. With a calm, predictable ride and fingertip control via IPS, the Absolute 47 Fly is a truly capable 50ft cruiser built for hands-on owners. The engine room is impressively accessible for a sub-50ft yacht, with tidy plumbing, clear sight gauges and clean routing around the pods. There’s plenty of space to carry out daily service checks comfortably, with logical layouts that suit an owner-driven yacht.
