You can also download Calibre for Mac, Windows, or Linux here: https://calibre-ebook.com/ *** Converting your manuscript to a finished ebook that can be viewed on devices such as Kindle, Nook, and other e-readers and tablets can be a pain. In fact, many services have made businesses out of charging people to do it for them. However, before you spend upwards of $50 to convert your ebook on one of these sites, consider doing the job yourself using a free program called Calibre. Calibre allows you to convert a number of popular word processing files (or even .pdfs) into file types used for e-publishing. For example, .epub is the most popular ebook file and is accepted by Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing platform as well as Apple’s iBooks, Barnes and Nobel’s Nook, Kobo, and others. You can also convert to Kindle-specific files such as .mobi, which can be used with Kindle Previewer (https://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...) to see how your ebook will display on a number of Amazon Kindle devices. Another great feature of Calibre is the ability to edit your books metadata, which in turn can help readers find your title more easily. Speaking of easy, Calibre also offers a table of contents generator. To use this feature, all you need to do is set the parameters to tell the program how you’ve denoted chapter titles and headings in your manuscript (e.g. any time you use an H1 or H2 heading, Calibre can detect that as a new chapter and add a bookmark that readers can follow to skip ahead). You can also ensure that your ebook will look great using Calibre’s built in preview feature. This, in conjunction with other tools such as Amazon Kindle Previewer, will allow you to see how your ebook file will display on other devices. Calibre also keeps all of your files organized by keeping all of your exports of one document together in a single line on your digital bookshelf. Whether you need to turn your Word document into an .epub for iBooks, make a .pdf into a .mobi file for KDP, or conduct any other combination of file conversions, Calibre can help you turn your writings into an actual digital book that will be ready for publication on several ebook platforms. So before wasting your money on a paid service, try converting your own ebook file with Calibre.
