In India, the incidence of ovarian cancer occurs a decade earlier than the western population which is a cause of great concern. The most important determinant of survival from ovarian cancer is the quality of the surgery. A cytoreductive surgery has proven to be effective against ovarian cancer which aims to remove all visible diseases within the abdominal cavity. This may involve removal of the uterus, removal of lymph nodes, or removal of the peritoneum.
