Dr. Bill Portuese, a double board-certified plastic surgeon in Seattle, Portland, and Ketchum explains what is involved in this transformative procedure. Transcript Hi, I'm Dr. Portuese from Seattle, and, today we're gonna talk about a neck lift. A neck lift in our practice involves removal of fatty deposits in the neck. Above, and sometimes below, the platysma muscle. A neck lift can accomplish removing the fatty deposits in the neck, and, performing what's called a platysmaplasty. That's tightening of the platysma muscle, just above the voice box in the front part of the neck. A neck lift sculpts the entire shape of the neck. But, a neck lift is not going to remove any excess skin in the neck. If there's excess and loose skin in the neck, inelastic skin, a lower face, and neck lift is required. Qualifications for a neck lift only in our practice, are going to be patients less than 50 years of age, who have excellent skin tone, and, basically just want to remove the fatty deposits above and below the neck. Liposuction will only remove the fatty deposits above the platysma muscle. Surgery, or a neck lift surgery, is required to remove the fatty deposits underneath the platysma muscle in the neck. And then, after you remove the fatty deposits underneath the platysma muscle, a platysmaplasty with sutures is required to close that incision, and, create a better jaw and neckline angle. The amount of fat deposits in the neck is genetic. Some patients have most of the fat above the muscle, some patients have most of the fat below the muscle, some patients have it in both locations. In any event, we're able to remove both of those fatty deposits, but, it requires liposuction and surgery.
