They are two ways to render chicken tallow, with and without water. I've shared the water process on my TikTok, and now I'm back to share the other process without water. The questions I got the most were: Do I have to use water, and how long does the oil last? 1. No, you don't have to use water. Start your pot on very low heat, add the tallow, leave it, and let it do its thing. 2. The oil lasts for 6 months in an airtight container. I often use mason jars to store my oil in the refrigerator. Just a few pointers: ▪︎The oil will congeal as it cools. Remove it from the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before cooking. ▪︎You can flavor the oil with herbs, onion, and garlic as the fat renders. ▪︎Tallow is just another name for animal fat. This is often used to make soaps and candles. ▪︎The oil can be used to add an extra boost of flavor to any dish. My favorite thing to make with it is mayo. ▪︎ The oil has a medium-high smoke point, so be careful not to burn it. ▪︎Schmaltz is clarified poultry fat. Though it is not common to make soaps or candles from it, it can be used as a substitute for pork and beef tallow. ▪︎Chicken chicharrón is so tasty when a bit of salt and fresh herbs are added to them. You can also chop them up and add them to soften butter. ▪︎My schmaltz came from 6 1/2 pounds of chicken back. It yields 1 1/3 cups of oil. #roshellestestkitchen #schmaltz #tallow ☆☆☆☆ HEY EVERYONE!
