The recently restored choir of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés Church provided a magnificent setting for the third concert of the 2018 Festival de Paris. This restoration marks the first step in a major project covering the entire thousand-year-old church, carried out jointly by the City of Paris and the Endowment Fund for the influence of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A landmark monument dear to Parisians, visitors from across France, and international guests alike. For this special evening, Jean-Christophe Spinosi was given carte blanche. The conductor chose to extend his repertoire from Monteverdi to soul music, highlighting how the essence of gospel can already be found in the Italian composer’s work.
