Overview Kick-start your conference experience with our in-depth workshop, “Neuroscience in Psychiatry: Genes, Molecules, Circuits, and Beyond”! There is no known gene for any psychiatric disorder, nor is one ever expected to be found. That is because genes don't code for psychiatric disorders or symptoms—they code for proteins and RNA, many of which regulate the efficiency of information processing in brain circuits. Psychiatric research is therefore attempting to link circuits to symptoms and treatment response upstream (via abnormal information processing) and to regulatory genes and epigenetic mechanisms downstream (via molecular biomarkers). At the 2015 Pre-Conference Workshop, Drs. Stephen Stahl and Charles Nemeroff will discuss neuroscience in psychiatry, from the basics of molecular biology to the most recent research linking symptoms to circuits and epigenetic mechanisms.
