The Doctrine of the Mean was written by Zisi, the grandson of Confucius. Zisi studied under Zengzi, a favorite disciple of Confucius and the author of the Great Learning*. It is a philosophical treatise on the cultivation of character and the attainment of higher levels of human virtue. My personal understanding is that if a person acts reasonably and without bias or excess, never going too far or falling short of standards in any situation, and strives according to one's actual circumstances, without blaming others, giving up on himself, or following the crowd, and consistently maintaining a peaceful and upright attitude while adhering to the right path, may his cultivation approaches to the *Doctrine of the Mean*. Later generations classified it with the *Great Learning*, the *Analects*, and the *Mencius as the "Four Books." The Great Learning was written by Zengzi, a disciple of Confucius. The Great Learning teaches how to start with oneself, influencing his family on a small scale, ensuring family members fulfill their duties and maintain harmony, thus influencing the whole society to achieve the grand goal of bringing peace to the world and governing the country finally. In this process, the person's self-cultivation improves day by day, eventually reaching the highest state of perfect goodness. ------------------- #three Character Classic #chineselanguage #Chinese classic #三字经 #中文 #BasicChinese #LearnChineseforBeginners #LearnMandarin #FreeChineseLessons #FreeMandarinChinese #LearnChineseOnline #BeginnerChineseLesson #FreeOnlineChineseLessons #BasicChineseCourses #easychinese #Chinese #LearnChinese #China #ChineseLanguage
