This is Part 1 of how to use a HOT knife to cut a vinyl record into art. Starting with a cardboard template of the design, I used a white paint pen to trace the design onto the record. Following the outline with the Hot Knife and cut the excess vinyl out. To smooth the edges of the cut, I used 80 grit sand paper to remove the melted vinyl from the surface of the record and then followed up with 220 grit and 400 grit to smooth the edges. Next a good cleaning with alcohol and then a couple coats of Dark Grey spray paint. And then a layer of Pro Marine Resin. In Part 2 I will be adding a clock face and clock works to complete this project.
