There is some discrepency where this tune originated, but it is certainly very old and I learnt it from my local session years ago, when I first started playing, so it must be very old! Once again, I am indebted to my friend Helen for providing me with the name for the tune, even though I can remember tunes quite well, most of the titles escape me. I believe it is played by a number of Northumbrian Pipe enthusiasts, although possibly not in the key of D, most likely in something a little more obscure like F. I remember a friend at that same session, a number of years ago, playing a set of Northumbrian Pipes and we had to relearn particular tunes in the key of F. I wrote him a tune, called the 'Reluctant Piper', as he required a fair bit of encouragement before he would play anything, despite the fact that he was a good musician. I must record that some day, as it's a lively Folk Rock Tune. I have listed this tune as English as it may well have originated in either Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire or Northumberland. However, no doubt someone will post a comment on here stating that it is a Scottish Tune. Which makes me smile, as that is what is so much fun about old folk melodies, no one really knows who first penned the tune. I hope some day that one or two of my offerings may end up being accepted into the tradition. NOT:https://yt3.ggpht.com/g8_wkSBtJTLXM2g... TAB:https://yt3.ggpht.com/0Tcpm4pgSr6vVvY...
