In this video we explore the capital of Bolivia - Sucre! A beautiful white colonial town that we made a pit stop in for a few days to celebrate Maddy's 22nd birthday and rest up between the Amazon venture and our Salt Flats trip. After Sucre, we took an overnight bus to Uyuni, Bolivia. A seemingly ghost town other than the tour companies that take you on the salt flat tours. We arrived in Uyuni early in the morning to find that our hostel that we were planning on staying at was..closed?? So, we continued a few blocks more to another hostel that allowed us to pay a little extra to get into a room early. With nothing else in Uyuni other than to book a tour company, we began our search and finally decided on a 3 day, 2 night journey that would take us from Uyuni, Bolivia - to - San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. Along the way we got to see Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve that contains an extensive range of landscapes, including volcanic mountain peaks, hot springs, geysers, lakes, fumaroles, and windswept deserts, as well as animals including llamas, alpacas, flamingoes, and much more! We were also able to dip in the Polques Hot Springs which was a small little pool like hot tub that felt orgasmic running into with a beer after being in the freezing cold all day. And of course, the salt flats! We went during the dry season and our tour did not take us to a wetter part of the flats, so we did not see the reflective ground that it is famous for, BUT it was still incredible and felt like you were on a different planet! If you go during the rainy season it can be dangerous but it then gives you the reflective ground that makes it hard to know which way is up or down. Oh and in the middle of the flats is the Incahuasi Island which used to be the top of an active volcano. Now it is a dry rock island with cacti galore! An odd and interesting island really just out there in the middle of salt flats...
