A Lecture on Goods and Services Tax: A Tax Regime Change in the Era of Globalisation | SPIESR

A Virtual Lecture on 'Goods and Services Tax: A Tax Regime Change in the Era of Globalisation' by Prof. D. Narayana, Former Director, Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT), Thiruvananthapuram was held on December 23, 2025 organised by SPIESR supported by ICSSR, New Delhi. Prof. Narayana is a distinguished economist and public policy expert specialising in health economics, public finance, labour migration, and development policy. He is currently Advisor and Professor of Eminence at the School of Social Sciences, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, a position he has held since January 2024. Previously, Prof. Narayana served as Director of the Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT), Thiruvananthapuram, during two terms (2012–2013 and 2016–2019). Prior to assuming leadership at GIFT, he held the prestigious Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Chair at the Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Thiruvananthapuram. Prof. Narayana has played an influential role in public policy in Kerala. He served as Technical Advisor to the Kerala State Planning Board from 2013 to 2016 and has been a member of the Kerala Public Expenditure Review Committee. He is also the Chairman of the Committee for the implementation of the Karunya Arogya Suraksha Padhathi, Kerala’s flagship health insurance scheme, aligned with Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY)
