In Part 1 Mark explains the most common misconception he has encountered among Wing Chun practitioners over the last 40 years and why this impacts their ability to successfully apply Wing Chun in fighting or unlock the forms true potential. To clarify one point made in this video, while using strength is counter-productive for improving ones Wing Chun skill or power generation, being fit and physically strong is still desirable from a health and wellbeing perspective and helps avoid injury when practicing applying Wing Chun in a dynamic environment such as sparring or fighting. The point Mark is making is that relaxation is not aspirational, but a prerequisite for learning to harness the movement and rotation of our centre of mass to generate force.
