A brief description of the mechanisms of action of various bronchodilators (including salbutamol and salmeterol) for use in asthma and COPD. Asthma is a condition involving recurrent, reversible obstruction of the airways in response to stimuli that are not themselves noxious, and which do not affect non-asthmatic subjects. The most common form of this, is the allergy to the faeces produced by house dust mites (HDM).
