Αφιέρωμα / Συνέντευξη του διάσημου Έλληνα μπάσου Δημήτρη Καβράκου στη ΝΕΤ - απόσπασμα από την εκπομπή Οι Κλασικοί της Μουσικής Interview with famous greek bass Dimitri Kavrakos in Greek Television Conductor Bartoletti explains how he met Kavrakos from Trikala, Greece at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and now enjoys watch him perform all of the world. 02:19 minute: "I started listening to opera when I was very young from the radio; that's what made me love opera. At the same time I participated in choruses, but started my official vocal studies at the National Conservatory. While a student, I started performing at the National Opera in Athens as a chorus member but pretty soon as a soloist. In 1976 Menotti came to Greece to stage his opera "Consul"; and that is how I had the opportunity to meet the great musician and director Menotti, who invited me to participate in the Spoleto Festival. And that was the start of my international career" 04:04 "Right after Spoleto I was invite to sing in the US by many managers who saw my performance at the festival." 05.10 Guido Bartoletti, conductor: "I met Dimitri Kavrakos in Chicago, when he was very young at the early stages of his career. For us, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, of which I was the Artistic Director, Dimitri sang a lot. He started out in small parts and gradually he interpreted big roles. Then I invited him in Florence to perform in Berlioz's the Damnation of Faust. Last year he had another great success in Bellini's Puritani, and this year he is back in Florence to sing very old and unknown opera " La Parisina" a work which was premiered here, in this theater, in 1833. I always thought of Dimitri as an artist of great talent, and a very serious professional singer always very well prepared, who practices not only with great attention but also with love. I am really proud of him, because I have seen him being born as an artist in Chicago, and now I enjoy seeing him radiate with his performances all over the word with great success."
