This is the VERY first thing you want to do before you plan ANY event - no matter how big or small the event is. Knowing your event objective helps you align with your client’s vision for the event, and it helps you understand the purpose of the event. As an event planner, knowing your event objective also helps you make decisions and communicate with your clients, and it helps you involve them in the decision-making process. Having this knowledge also helps you answer client questions, too. 5 Steps to create your event objective: 1:53 - who is invited to the event? This helps you make other decisions based on how many people will be there. For example, what venue is suitable for the event? 2:49 - what do you need for the event? This is comprised of things like the event name, if there is one, will you need event sponsors or partners for the event, what type of event is it - a festival, a birthday, a holiday party, etc., what is the theme of the event, and what is the event budget? 4:40 - where will your event be held and where is the best location? Things to consider are accessibility and weather when thinking about your event venue. 6:35 - when is the event happening? Make sure to consider the best date and time of the event and consider road closures and/or weather patterns. 7:52 - why is your event happening? This is ultimately your event objective, but it doesn’t function without the four steps before it! Knowing and following these five steps to creating your event objective helps you ask the right questions and plan the perfect event.
