Agnieszka grew up in a Jehovah’s Witness family, always feeling different and alienated among her peers. At the age of 14, under pressure from the organization and her loved ones, she decided to get baptized despite inner resistance. She quickly discovered that the reality after baptism drastically differed from the promises made to her — instead of acceptance and support, she experienced disappointment and pressure. When she was eventually disfellowshipped, her family cut her off emotionally, though not physically, which turned out to be even more painful. In this moving interview, Agnieszka talks about the trauma of being rejected by her closest ones, about not being allowed to sit at the same table during meals, missing her brother’s wedding, and the years she spent defending the organization that hurt her. It was only recently, thanks to content on TikTok, that she realized she had grown up in a cult.
