This is the official music video for Thabeng Ea Sione by the legendary Clap and Tap choir, Barorisi Ba Morena. The song is the title track for their album which was released in 1992. The year 2022 marks the 57th year Barorisi Ba Morena have been serving song as township spirituals, spread across three generations. They are a line of township choirs carrying a choral tradition with translingual hymns (mostly “vernacular”) as a language. An apostolic army with symphonic flexibilities when it comes to how far the arrangements can stretch: here, there, everywhere, grounded or way up there with the pitch when the spirit takes over. The choir, still active today, also invokes feelings of nostalgia. It makes individuals who are familiar with the sound and “vibe” miss their grandparents, mothers, an aunt or even school morning assembly where a little hymn wasn’t uncommon.
