In this video I answer a question I received from Derek, a BJJ White Belt, who wanted to know how to use the BJJ Open Mats available at his gym after his beginner classes. He says that currently he's unsure of what to do. He sees everyone rolling but he feels unprepared for the rolling and training that takes place in a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu gym. As I explain in the video. As a White Belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu. Every technique you learn and every door that opens seems to remind you of how little you know. BJJ at this time can often seem like an endless well of technique and options. So my tip for this problem is BJJ is to focus on what you know, rather than focusing on what you don't know. For example. If you know how to use full guard. Instead of doing a full roll. Focus on just the positions you know and feel comfortable, like full guard. You can do this with situational rolling. You sweep or submit from the bottom and the top person tries to pass or submit from top. Restart after either person has accomplished their objective. By focusing on what you do know instead of what you don't know as a BJJ White Belt. You will make the whole idea of training much less intimidating and more manageable. I hope this video helps!
