The short version: 1 - Familiarize yourself with 35MM film and 16MM film looks. For this video I was thinking about the look of Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing for 35MM film daytime Brooklyn look, and for night time I was thinking of a green, grainy look - similar to that of My Dinner with Andre - a 16MM film look. 2 - Shoot at 4K, highest possible settings 3 - Do color correction and color grade work. I used FCPX for editing this video. see the cam and FCPX settings I use here - • Panasonic HC-X1500 - cam + FCPX settings! ... 4 - Add film grain. Experiment with it. Come up with a film look that works for the footage. 5 - Release on 4K, highest possible settings. Note - the Panasonic HC-X1500 is great at daytime filming. Nighttime footage will produce more grain - due to the small sensor. So it is easier to create a low grain, 35MM film look with the camcorder. Also easier to create a high grain 16MM film look with the camcorder. Obviously if lights are added to night filming then a different look is possible. Either way, the camcorder has great potential for creating fiction feature and other fiction film looks - cinematic looks. Music by Kevin MacLeod. Additional music info coming soon! Post any questions about the cam or the film looks in comments. Copyright 2025 Sujewa Ekanayake
