Enkhbayar and Hu toasting after the signing STORYLINE Visiting Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbayar was welcomed by the Chinese President Hu Jintao to official talks in Beijing on Monday, which was followed by the signing of a series of agreements between the two countries. It's Enkhbayar first state visit to China since being elected in May. During the talks, Hu referred to his Mongolian counterpart as "an old friend of the Chinese people" and said he appreciated Mongolia's efforts in putting the relationship between the two countries on top their foreign policy agenda. Enkhbayar responded by saying the good-neighbourly partnership of mutual trust between Mongolia and China had developed smoothly, and that his government was grateful for China's ongoing cooperation to promote economic development. He also welcomed China to participate in the development of agriculture, animal husbandry, electricity and mining, as well as infrastructure construction in Mongolia. After the talks, the two presidents attended a ceremony in which ten documents were signed, including a border agreement and a memorandum of coal and power industry cooperation. The two countries share a land border of 4,700 kilometres (2,920 miles) and Monday's border agreement legally fixed the border map between the two countries. China is a leading investor in impoverished Mongolia, a former Soviet satellite that is a close American ally.
