The BIDMaP Emerging Scholars Seminar Series is a biweekly forum hosted by the Bakar Institute of Digital Materials for the Planet (BIDMaP) at UC Berkeley. It features graduate students and postdoctoral researchers working at the intersection of AI, physics, chemistry, and materials science. The seminar details are as follows: Speaker: Dr. Lixin Lu, Postdoctoral Scholar at Stanford University (advised by Prof. Todd Martínez) Date: Tuesday, October 7, 2025 Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Location: Cory Hall 373, UC Berkeley Research Focus Dr. Lu’s talk will address the challenges of modeling complex chemical systems, particularly those containing heavy elements. Her presentation will cover: Relativistic Multi-reference Methods: Essential for understanding catalysis and quantum materials. Computational Acceleration: Utilizing GPUs and DFT-corrected methods to recover dynamic electron correlation efficiently. AI & Machine Learning: Integrating modern computational advancements to accelerate the in silico design of next-generation materials and explore non-adiabatic dynamics. About the Speaker Dr. Lixin Lu earned her Ph.D. from the University of Washington under Professor Xiaosong Li. Her work bridges core theoretical chemistry with practical applications, aiming to create foundational tools that serve as the engine for materials discovery.
