The making of the RL1179 ADV80 80-Series Visor Clip at Crazy Steel Customs - Red Line Land Cruisers

80-Series Visor Clip / ADV80 Colab (Pair) Billet Aluminum Black Anodize / RL1179 https://redlinelandcruisers.com/shop/... As 80-Series Land Cruiser owners, (we have three on staff!) we are always thinking about our rigs and how to improve performance, enhance ergonomics and personalize the iconic Toyota! This little project has a unique story in that it was initially conceived of by our marketing dude – Rodney Wills (aka GCRAD1) after purchasing his 1992 FJ80 back in 2008 and dubbing it the ADV80. While driving across Death Valley in early 2015 Rodney noticed his 80-Series visor clip had cracked. No, Wills did not simply replace it with a genuine Toyota replacement Holder, Visor (LIGHT SABLE, TRIM4 74348-60010-06) or (LIGHT GRAY, TRIM1 74348-60010-03). He had an idea… At the time, Wills was working for Axial R/C Inc., and tiny custom cool parts was “daily life” at his day job! For his 49th birthday, he gifted himself the funds to spend on having his idea translated into a computer aided design file (CAD) in hopes of making an actual machined part. Talking with his longtime colleague and founding partner in the GravelCrew Rally Team, ScottG of EndlessAtlas, “G” introduced Wills to Doug Robinson who was a young aspiring engineer at the time. Robinson realized Rodney’s idea in CAD on 4/30/2015, just twelve days after Wills’s birthday. Rodney’s other “Scott” of whom he also worked with at both HPI Racing and Axial R/C Inc., Scott Roberts designed the “ADV80” logo that was included into the file. For over eight years the digital drawing has laid dormant, never materializing the CAD data into 6061 metal! Rodney moved to Colorado Springs in 2021 and began working for Red Line Land Cruisers. Two years after working for Red Line Land Cruisers, Rodney tapped into an old harddrive to rediscover the CAD drawing that Doug had created for him on his birthday back in 2015! Not knowing if the CAD file would be a workable functioning file, with question, Rodney sent the drawing to Chris Browning of Crazy Steel Customs to inquire if the file would in fact work. CSC is also located in Colorado Springs and is Red Line Land Cruisers machine shop of choice! Chris opened the “archaic” data file, flight-checked and tweaked the data and gave the green light ✅ and now Red Line Land Cruisers is including these ADV80 Visor Clips into production along with the other specialty Land Cruiser parts machined by Crazy Steel Customs.
