This is the Kyrie from Mass XI, Missa Orbis Factor, chanted with organ accompaniment at a mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite (Traditional Latin Mass). Extraordinary Form resources: https://musicasacra.com/music/ 1961 Liber Usualis (a book of prayers and chants): https://media.musicasacra.com/pdf/lib... -- Recorded at Mater Dei Catholic Church in Irving, TX, an apostolate of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in the Diocese of Dallas. For more information, visit http://materdeiparish.com/. -- There are three lines per stanza, one for each of the three hypostases of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). The words "Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison, Kyrie eleison," are Greek, and mean "Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy." The Kyrie first appeared in the Roman Catholic church during the 6th century, when it was incorporated into the Roman Catholic mass, following the tradition of Eastern Catholic churches, who said their masses in Greek. Rather than translate it into Latin, the Roman Catholic church elected to keep the Kyrie in its original Greek form.
