Blowzabella is Andy Cutting – diatonic button accordion; Jo Freya – vocals, saxophone, clarinet; Paul James – vocals, bagpipes, saxophones; David Shepherd – violin; Barn Stradling – bass guitar; Jon Swayne – bagpipes, saxophone. 'The Baltonsborough Processional' is from the band’s album ‘Tilham’. A traditional tune from the late 18th century tune book of Joseph Barnes, who lived near Carlisle. It’s a version of the morris dance tune 'Lads A Bunchum' – played here in a minor key. The middle section of this piece is Dave Shepherd’s rewrite of another 18th century tune called 'The Fair Maid of the Inn'. ‘Baltonsborough Processional’ is the name of the dance devised by Dave Shepherd which we use these tunes for. Blowzabella is a genuinely unique band that makes an inimitable, driving, drone-based wall-of-sound - played with a fabulous sense of melody, rhythmic expertise and sheer feeling. They compose their own music which is influenced by English and European traditional folk music and song. Many of their tunes are “standards” in the modern British/European folk repertoire and are played by people all over the world. www.blowzabella.co.uk
