On this day, we honor all those who have served, especially those who have given all.. We do not discuss the legitimacy of the conflicts under which those sacrifices occured today. And why is that? I believe it is because we are a God Loving country. Jesus said 'No greater love is this than a man who lays down his life for his friends.' But I ask you, how much greater is the love when one lays down his (or her) life for those the do not know? Is there anything more holy, or more Christlike? Although this song was written to honor one small group of soldiers, I submit that it applies to all who have ever worn the uniform, and were willing to give all.. We love you all forever. As an aside.. The writer of this song, Staff Sgt. Barry Sadler, was at one time on trial for a non-fatal shooting. When he made his statement, this was his defense- "Your honor, I'm a Green Beret.. If I'd shot him, he'd be dead..." I'd say case dismissed.. Thanks to all who have served our great country so bravely.
