ONE LUCELEC: Bernard Theobalds - The Beginning

Bernard Theobalds was LUCELEC’s first Managing Director. He is one of only 5 surviving retired employees who worked with the company when it opened its doors 60 years ago in 1964. He retired from the company on December 31, 2003, after 26 years of service. The winner of the 1965 Island Scholarship, Mr Theobalds began his work in the electricity business in 1971 when he joined the Commonwealth Development Corporation (one of the three entities that merged to form LUCELEC). In 1995 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to the Power sector and in addition to Saint Lucia, has managed regional utilities in Saint Vincent, Dominica and Montserrat. He is also a published author and founding member of the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC). As we continue celebrating our 60 Years of Powering Saint Lucia, we wanted to take you back to where it all started.
