Most govenors for small gas engines use a mechanical govenor to control rpms. This Generac EXL 10000 generator uses a stepper motor with inputs from a Systems Control Board to govern rpms. This videp shows throttle linkage in a static condition with no tension on the governor spring. When the throttle is moved wide open the throttle plate in the carb shuts indicating that air flow is being restricted. The stepper linkage will move freely when the throttle is in the static condition. When the throttle is moved clockwise the stepper linkage is moved from a forward position to a rear position and will not move which suggests this is actually not wide open but a reduced throttle position. Generators with idle control not receiving a load demand will throttle back from 3600 rpms to a lower setting. The stepper motor is responsible for this action with control coming from the SCB. We will capture video and post again this time with the engine runing and stepper motor connected and disconnected showing the linkage movement.
