The Most Regrettable Railway Closure - The Matlock to Buxton Midland Railway ( Monsall Trail ) Was the closure of the Midland Railway between Matlock and the edge of Buxton the most regrettable Railway Closure? It is absolutly one of them for sure. In Part 1 of my walk along the Monsall Trail i begin at Bakewell taking a look at the former station, how it used to look and what it could possibly hold for the future. I then move on towards Hassop Station that closed in 1942. It is now a Cycle Hire with a Cafe and good parking too. Then it is onto Great Longstone Station, maybe the most stunning of them all on this Matlock to Buxton Railway. I sall be showing then and now comparisons for all 3 stations.
