The money spent, I decided to see if I can diagnose and fix it. There are not many vacuum pump teardown videos on YT so this is my effort to contribute. I foolishly expected my camera to record good audio with its built-in mic, and was indeed disappointed. I didn't really want to try to make the same narration again, so I just did it voiceover style. So the dialog may not always be 100% on cue. Sometimes, this pump can't start; the motor just stalls and hums. I found that the driveshaft nearly locks up in one spot, which made me worry that something might have gotten sucked into the intake. On tearing down the pump I find that it's not as bad as I thought; a vane in one of the two rotors has seized up. The secondary is in good shape, other than a little rust, and the driveshaft has a pronounced seal groove. I hope to follow up with videos of cleaning and reassembling the pump.
