September 4, 2023 Vlog 45 Michelle and I walked to a Travel Lodge to be picked up by Thomas Brown. Thomas is an amazing tour guide who also dose taxi and transport services in Nadi. Tomas is a great resource if you need a ride from the air port or want to go to the beaches or on a tour. After being picked up Tomas drove us to Viseisei Village. Viseisei translates to spread out, and is thought to be where the first Fijians landed on the island. From my understanding most native Fijians can trace their ancestry to Viseisei. upon arriving at the village the local women had tables laid out with handicraft items and souvenirs. Each table belongs to a different family and the money you spend greatly helps that family. We made sure to buy a little something from a few of the tables. If you are wearing shorts they will give you a sari/Sarong to cover your legs (to be respectful). You must remove your hat also, in most villages wearing sunglasses is acceptable for foreigners. One of the ladies walked us around the village and explained how things worked and their social system works. It was awesome to see the first village in Fiji. When we finished our tour Thomas was waiting for us street side ready to take us to The Garden Of The Sleeping Giant. The Garden Of The Sleeping Giant is named after the mountain it sits below. The mountain vaguely resembles a person laying on their back with different portions resembling the head neck body ankles and feet. The garden was once the home of Raymond Burr ( Canadian Hollywood actor most known for portraying Perry Mason and Robert T. Ironside in the late 1960's-1970's) Raymond loved Fiji and chose to live in Fiji for his retirement. He was given the land by the locals and with their help he cultivated a collection of tropical orchids (over 2000 different types). There is also Beautifully cultivated plants, trees and Lilly ponds. After Raymond Burr's Death (Born May 21,1917- died September 12, 1993) He left the property to the Fijians where it has become a popular attraction. I was enthralled by all of the plants mainly the orchids growing naturally. There is a well maintained path that takes you through the garden and to a mountain over look. this tour/hike is definitely a must do if you are in the area. make sure to bring lots of water and maybe a snack. After taking our time in the garden we found Thomas waiting patiently for us ready to take us to the Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud pools. After Driving along a wonderful dirt road we arrived at the Sabeto Mud pools and Hot Springs. Upon arriving you are walked around the site where there is a bunch of mud pools and hot springs fed by natural Thermal water bubbling up from the Earth. There is also handicraft and souvenirs for sale. After being shown around you taken to a place to get changed into your bathing suits and leave your affects. We were paired with a local boy named Josie who took our pictures at the different stages of the mud pool experience. Josie coached us on how to properly enjoy the pools and mud. he took tons of pictures and videos of us. Josie even procured a coconut for me to drink and eat (Michelle doesn't enjoy fresh coconut turns out..). After covering ourselves in mud we basked in the sun and let the mud dry and exfoliate our skin almost like a natural Biorè strip. When the mud had done its magic we plunged into the first of many mud pools. Each pool was more clear than the next like a natural dish washing station. Michelle and I helped each other get clean and tidy. To my surprise the mud did not stain our bathing suits as we were warned ahead of time to not ware anything we didn't want to be stained. After our tour through the pools we were offered a hour massage (extra cost but very reasonably priced) that made the whole experience complete. Thomas waited an extra hour for us cost free. In closing Thomas Brown is one of the most kind and honest people we met on our travels. He lended us money to pay for things like the massage. Thomas never Rushed us, he was very patient and answered all of the questions our curious brains could ask. He gave us a ride to a market on the way home where we were able to obtain groceries and access an Automated Teller Machine. Sixteen minutes and Twentynine seconds into the video there is a snapshot of his Buisness card, I highly recommend you use his services. Thomas Brown's phone number is: +679 9164 316. Michelle and I will remember this day for the rest of our lives it was that perfect.. Hope you Subscribe to my channel if you haven't already. I plan to release many more videos from our trip in a timely fashion. Thank you for reading/ watching the video! SEE YOU NEXT TIME, -Jared.
