As-salamu alaykum and welcome back to our Ramadan preparation series. In today’s vlog, I’m sharing how I’m preparing for Ramadan as a busy mum of two young children here in the UK 🇬🇧✨ From grocery shopping after dropping Haidar to Sunday madrassa, to cooking handi broccoli and chicken while the kids are home for half term — this is real-life Ramadan prep with little ones. We visit the Ramadan aisles (so many Pakistani treats!), pick up fresh fruits and veggies, pastry for homemade pasties, yoghurt for lighter suhoor options, and even spot some beautiful halal fruit jellies that would make the sweetest Ramadan gifts. Back at home, I begin batch food prep to save time and energy during fasting: Washing and portioning halal chicken and lamb Preparing chicken thighs for fajita pasties (a school-time lifesaver!) Minced chicken for keema, lasagne and pasta Baby chickens for curries and rice dishes Homemade pakora mix (just add onions & potatoes!) Green chutney base ready to mix with yoghurt Fresh coriander washed and chopped for garnishing We also made a quick trip to the local cash and carry for essentials like Rooh-e-Afza — a Ramadan staple in our home 🩷 But this vlog is more than just food prep. I reflect on how Ramadan has changed since becoming a mother. Before kids, Ramadan felt quiet and spacious. Now it’s layered with snack requests, countdowns to iftar, little voices echoing the adhan, and tiny hands reaching for dates. And somehow… it feels even more sacred. Ramadan now teaches me: Patience in real time Choosing gentleness when I’m low on energy Letting go of the “perfect Ramadan” Finding spirituality inside the chaos We also decorated our hallway for Ramadan — something I feel is so important as Muslim parents raising children in the UK. When Christmas decorations fill schools, homes and shops weeks in advance, our children see it. So it’s important we make Ramadan just as exciting and beautiful in our homes 🤍 We made a special duʿa for the Imam of our time, Imam Mahdi (a.s.), and talked about building love for our faith inside our home. This Ramadan, I’m also: 📖 Starting Quran journaling with a 30-day guide 📵 Reducing social media 🌿 Incorporating daily dhikr walks 🤲 Reading Ziyarat Ashura throughout the day ✨ Making more intentional time for Qur’an and reflection InshaAllah, our fasts begin on the 19th February. Ramadan Mubarak to those who have already started. May your fasts be accepted, your duʿas answered, and your homes filled with warmth and light. Thank you for being here and sharing this journey with us 🤍 Please keep us in your prayers. Don’t forget to like, share and subscribe for more Ramadan content.
