I think this is a great welding mask if you cannot afford to spend more than $100. With that said, if I had the money I would take a serious look at either the Lincoln 3350 or the Esab SENTINEL A50. However, the Kobalt welding mask works fine with an acetylene torch, a well lit area or if you are grinding. It helps keep your face and eyes safe so I sometimes use it when cutting any kind of metal around the house. One last thing...this welding helmet looks amazing in my opinion. The only reason I recommend trying some of the more expensive models is because I sometimes have trouble seeing what I am trying to weld with my MIG welder. When there is a flash of light I sometimes see a big flash and I cannot see what I am doing. Also, it sometimes gets really dark after a big flash so I can't see anything. This is why It is important to fine tune the 3 main settings. The first setting is the 5-9 welding shade. The second setting is the 9-13 welding shade. In addition, there is a dial on the side of the helmet that adjust from 5-13 welding shade to protect against radiant energy. This dial also contains a grinding knob setting but be careful not to leave it in the grinding setting because this will deplete the battery when the welding mask is not in use. There is also a way to adjust the welding mask head strap. Also, there is a sensitivity dial that controls how much light can set off the automatic darkening feature. Last, there is a dial in the middle of the welding helmet that delays the darkening feature. You can set more or less delay any time you want. I am thinking about getting one of those magnifying lenses for my Kobalt welding mask as well so I can see what I am welding closer.
