Solung is the most popular festival of Adi community of Arunachal Pradesh. In collating with agriculture calendar, it is celebrated annually sometimes during the months of August and September(Tanno and Yío Poolo). The word solung is a combination of two words, SO+LUNG, SO means Ésho/Ého-Mithun and Lung means alung-group.Group of Mithun and TALUNG-erecting fencing. The solung is primarily a festival associated with agriculture activities. The Solung celebration or Rhapsody has narrated into three parts. 1.Lí:mír Lí:bom-Lí:muk Língka Aabang. 2.Binnyat Aabang. 3.Ékop-Taktor aAabang. Accordingly, Solung poonung-folk dance is performed in every first night of these three parts of solung celebration. Solung mirí-rhapsodist narrates the lore of solung through aabang-archaic verses, keeping the SEEDI (origin of creation) in Central theme, origin of animates and inanimates and migration of the Adis. First night-LÍ:MUK LÍNGKA AABANG, which means narrates the creation of the universe including animates and inanimates. Second night-BINNYAT AABANG, which elucidate the progress of the race and development of agriculture and how the rice food crops came into exist in the world. Godddess-KIINÉ NAANÉ. Third night-ÉKOP TAKTOR AABANG, which narrates the mythology that deals with the epic struggle between Tani(mankind) and Taro (evil spirit) and the emissaries of Taro like Épom (Sylvan) nyiji-nyiipong, banji banmang and well being of mankind. The aabang begins with various stages of transformation from Kéyum-Kéro, Seedi-Melo and then Tani are as follows. KÉYUM-YUMKANG-KAASI-SIANG-AABO-BOMUK- MUKSENG-SEEDI-DÍ:LÍNG-LÍ:TUNG-TUUYE-YÉPÉ- PÉDONG-DOONI-DONGOR. Thus, Solung is celebrated every year and pay offering to KIINÉ-NAANÉ, DAADI BOTÉ and DOOYING BOTÉ for the protection of mithuns and prosperity of mankind.
