After nearly two years of development, Rivian says this in-house system goes far beyond typical voice commands. Instead, it’s designed to understand the vehicle environment and adapt to each driver’s habits over time. The assistant uses what Rivian calls an “agentic framework,” allowing multiple AI models to coordinate things like climate control, navigation, and other vehicle systems without conflict. Processing is split between the vehicle and the cloud, thanks to Rivian’s new zonal electrical architecture. What’s especially interesting is that this AI assistant is not part of Rivian’s $5.8 billion joint venture with Volkswagen. That means Rivian is keeping this technology exclusive, positioning it as a key competitive edge as the company pushes further into autonomy. While no official rollout date was announced, Rivian's software chief hinted it could be available to customers by the end of 2025. The upgraded hardware on Rivian’s R1S and R1T earlier this year makes this launch technically possible very soon.
