Kanthaiah (55) a resident of Ceylon Colony, the only breadwinner in the family and also a father of a disabled son was shot down at the frontlines of the protest. The protest against Sterlite Copper, a subsidiary of Vedanta Mining group is two-decade-long. The plant has been closed six times due to several environmental, legal violations. The recent protest was triggered by the proposed expansion of the plant to double its capacity. The recent shooting, torture and arbitrary arrests started on the hundredth day of the protest, to bring the struggle to a brutal end.
