Replacing Audi A3 VVT solenoid o-ring Fixing Audi A3 timing chain cover oil leak Fixing Oil leak from Audi A3 VVT solenoid In this video I show you how I replaced the inner o-ring seal on my 2018 Audi A3 Timing Chain Cover. The seals begin to leak over time and it looks like a complete upper timing chain cover replacement is needed (around $1000 or more for the dealer to replace it...), but fear not - it could be as simple as a $7 o-ring seal ! I am referring to the o-rings that seal around the outer diameter of the VVT solenoids where they press into the end of the engine block. On my engine there are two of these and when I entered what I thought was the correct part # for the o-rings the Audi parts website showed 'this part does not fit your 2018 Audi A3'. However, it IS the right part ! I think Audi doesn't sell them separately for my model (model 8VM with CZR engine) As mentioned in the video, the correct part # for those inner o-rings that I used is WHT007212B Happy leak fixing ! Update. Just over a week later I can say that replacing those seals reduced the leak a lot but there is still a very slight weep around the bottom of the two VVT solenoids. I'm going to leave it for now as it is minor, but eventually I'll probably have to change out the top timing chain cover as well. Second update. May 2025. I finally found that the only way to fully stop my leaks was to replace the two seals that sit against the VVT solenoids in the timing chain cover. I replaced the main seal around the edge of the cover as well as the two tapered seals that seal between the cover and the VVT solenoids. Many videos suggest replacing the whole cover assembly but I found that my cover was not warped at all so just replacing the seals worked for me. Now finally I'm 100% leak free ! 0:00 Intro 2:25 The tools I used 3:39 Step by Step Disassembly & inspection of o-ring 6:59 Re-Assembly 9:29 Conclusion
