Bat box installation in the biodiversity corridor | Environmental Projects on Val de Vie Estate

One of the greatest threats to natural systems is the fragmentation of habitats. The development of corridors between sections of habitat has become the accepted answer to sustaining critical biodiversity. The Val de Vie Estate 40 hectare biodiversity corridor rehabilitation program is designed to rehabilitate the area back to a more natural ecologically functional unit that is not only used by homeowners for recreation, but also as a conservation and educational area. The biodiversity corridor is home to numerous small animals, one being the Cape serotine bat. Simon Allen, Val de Vie Estate Environmental Officer, explains the design of this particular bat box and how he hopes to provide a safe roosting space for these insectivorous creatures.
