MODULE: MEDIA UNMASKED: Truths, Tricks and Trends Culminating Event- AdFluence – A Media Extravaganza The school-wide theme "MEDIA UNMASKED" culminated with event AdFluence – A Media Extravaganza. Media refers to the channels and tools used to communicate messages to large audiences. The "Media Unmasked" module aims to enhance students' media literacy and highlight the importance of design within that context. Additionally, it will equip them to navigate an increasingly digital world by developing their decision-making skills and fostering an analytical and critical mindset. Participation in the culminating event helped apply and reinforce the student’s knowledge of different media types, with a prime focus on advertisements and the role of design in them. The students used their newly gained knowledge and interest in advertisements in the event by showcasing their knowledge through different knowledge stalls, famous ads showcase, engaging parents in interactive stalls through quiz and displaying advertisements made by them. This event was an initiative for the students to come and present their knowledge which enhances their confidence to become effective communicators. The students worked together under the guidance of their class teachers to generate ideas, plan and execute their ideas. This would also become a class project with the students researching and developing ideas together. Based on the discussion, the class teacher formed teams/groups within the class for different tasks. The division of responsibilities within the class would ensure complete class participation. Activities for the Event: 1. FAMOUS ADS SHOWCASE (ALL GRADES) Students presented the following themed stalls/sections: • TV ad collages: Pictures of famous ads shown on television (e.g. popular ads of 80’s and 90’s era). • Print ad collages: Ads printed in old magazines and newspapers, billboards and hoardings. • Mixed Media Art: Show Amul ads in mixed media art format where different materials used to present the ads. E.g. an Original Amul butter box used, paper 3D, Amul butter or Amul butter box made with clay, cutouts of Amul ads in magazines and newspapers and Amul ads arranged theme-wise on posters- current affairs, sports, entertainment, etc. Even cut outs of Amul girl, the mascot were also displayed. • Carousel ads: Showcase multiple images shown in scrollable format ads on Instagram. E.g. Dyson airwrap/hair multi-styler • Famous Taglines: Famous taglines of different brands were presented. For example, Because You Are Worth it - Loreal, Eat Fresh-Subway and Have a break, have a Kit Kat-KitKat. • Evolution of Ads: Ads from the black and white era to colour presented in timeline format. E.g. Nescafe ads. 2. KNOWLEDGE STALLS (SECONDARY GRADES) Putting up Knowledge Stalls based on famous Ad gurus of India and their work. Students presented the following details: • Brief profile of Ad Gurus: Posters • Preview of best work of each Ad Guru: Infographic charts and picture collages. 3. INTERACTIVE MEDIA STATIONS (SECONDARY GRADES) A quiz based on advertisements was conducted. This quiz made with multiple-choice questions. • Taglines – Brand/product to be guessed • Audio of Jingles and ad songs – Brand/product to be guessed • Pictures of famous ads (print and video)– Brand/product to be guessed • Ad Charades: Students act out ads without words while visitors guess. 4. STUDENTS MADE ADS GALLERY (ALL GRADES) Displayed print ads made by the students during the module in the corridors.
