Supporting the COVID-19 Response in Pakistan

Inside Timergara hospital, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. In early April, the MSF team in Timergara district headquarters (DHQ) set up a triage area where more than 1,000 visitors to the hospital are screened every day for COVID-19. People with suspected or confirmed cases of the disease wait in an MSF-built isolation unit to receive treatment, or are referred for intensive care or sent home according to their needs. “It will help us to actively identify cases, it will help us to reduce transmission at community level, and, most importantly, it will help us to reduce the impact on the patients and health care workers who are most vulnerable to this infection,” explains MSF project medical referent Said Raziq. The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan reached 13,915 as of April 28, with 292 reported deaths.
