This video discusses auteur theory, the idea that a movie director has final say and deserves credit for a movie as an artwork. It analyzes and debates whether auteur theory is valid or not. I discuss auteur theory from a movie viewer's point-of-view. How can you, an ordinary movieviewer, know who to give credit to for a movie? Sometimes the credit goes to the director, but a lot of people work on movies, including composers, screenwriters, actors, editors, and a list of hundreds of people. Why shouldn't they be given credit? The video argues that while auteur theory has validity in some cases, we are better off seeing movies as a massive collaborative enterprise.
