For more than 100 years, the North Fork Feather River powered California. But the cost of this power development is that most of the water was removed from the North Fork Feather River. American Whitewater has spent the past twenty five years restoring the North Fork Feather, piece by piece. Poe Reach is the last section of the North Fork Feather before it enters Lake Oroville and the place where hydro development on the Feather began over 100 years ago. Today, recreational releases bring water back to Bardee’s Bar (A section of the Poe Reach), restoring whitewater, community, and public access to one of Northern California’s most scenic river canyons. In this episode of CURRENT RELEASE, we explore: • The early hydropower development of the Feather River • How the Poe Reach became a forgotten stretch • The effort to restore flows • What these releases mean for paddlers, families, and the broader community "These flows didn’t just happen." They were negotiated piece by piece and they continue because people support the work behind the scenes.
