#Waiata • #MaoriMusic • #AotearoaArtist • #AustralianArtist • #UpliftingSong • #healingmusic This song was born in Rotorua, shaped by Wairua, and carried by the strength of whānau and whenua. It’s a reminder to hold your ground, breathe deep, and rise again, even when life shifts around you. I wrote Stand Strong after returning to Kauae Urupā in Ngongotahā, Rotorua, reconnecting with my roots, and feeling the presence of those who came before me. My mother, Mere‑Aroha (Ladybird), my brother Randall, and my mother’s parents and whānau — the Wilson–Manley–Morrison line — all rest in this same sacred place. Standing there, surrounded by generations of my people, I felt the depth of our whakapapa and the strength that flows through it. This visit carried an even deeper weight as it followed the unveiling of my nephew, Hakaraia Wilson, who passed at just 26 years of age. In his short life he achieved so much, carried so much potential, and left behind a legacy far bigger than his years. His passing was an immense loss, but his wairua continues to walk beside us. Speaking with my eldest cousin, Bryce Morrison, about my brother Randall’s resting place brought a quiet sense of reassurance. After many years, that moment offered a feeling of peace and understanding. My father, Douglas Hokena Waerea, rests at Paranui Urupā in the Himatangi/Rangiotu area near Foxton, alongside his parents, siblings, and the wider Waerea and Rophia whānau. My younger brother Lance Waerea and his son Andy rest in Aramac Cemetery in Outback Queensland, another place held close to our family’s story. Knowing that both sides of my family — the Wilson–Manley–Morrison line in Rotorua and the Waerea–Rophia line across Himatangi/Rangiotu and Aramac — stand behind me in spirit gives this waiata its grounding. Their Wairua, their mana, and their journeys all flow into this song. Stand Strong carries that quiet power — the kind you don’t shout but feel in your bones. It’s for anyone navigating change, healing, or stepping into a new chapter with courage. It’s for those living far from home, remembering that your wairua and your mana travel with you. It’s for those carrying the memory of someone they love, knowing they still walk beside you in spirit. Although this waiata was born in Aotearoa, it was completed in Blighty, NSW, Australia — a reminder that our identity, our wairua, and our connection to home stay with us no matter where we stand in the world. Written from the heart of Aotearoa and Australia, this song is a reminder that you are never alone — not in grief, not in growth, not in the moments where you’re rebuilding yourself from the inside out. Thank you for listening, supporting, and sharing this journey with me. Your presence means more than you know. Kia kaha e te whānau — stand strong wherever you are. #StandStrong #JakemanInOrbit #Waiata #MaoriMusic #AotearoaMusic #MaoriArtist #NZArtist #AustralianArtist #Wairua #Mana #HealingMusic #UpliftingSongs #MotivationalMusic #IndieArtist #IndieMusic #SingerSongwriter #OriginalMusic #Ngongotaha #Rotorua #Himatangi #Rangiotu #Whanau #MusicForTheSoul
