S2E7 Many breast cancer survivors are told that removing their ovaries will be “no different” than hormone suppression shots. But for some women, the reality of hysterectomy and oophorectomy is far more intense — physically, emotionally, and mentally — than they were prepared for. In this episode of Besties with Breasties, Sarah and Beth are joined by survivor Sarah, who shares her deeply personal experience with hysterectomy and ovary removal after hormone-positive breast cancer. She walks through why surgery was recommended, what recovery actually felt like, and the emotional crash that followed — a period she describes as “the bottom dropping out.” This conversation explores the intersection of surgical menopause, emotional fallout after treatment, and the importance of informed consent. It highlights why timing, mental health support, and honest conversations matter before making permanent medical decisions. In This Episode, We Discuss: -Why hysterectomy and ovary removal are recommended after breast cancer -Hormone suppression shots vs surgical menopause -What recovery really feels like after hysterectomy -Why emotional symptoms can be severe and unexpected -The connection between treatment anniversaries and emotional fallout -Depression, anxiety, and uncontrollable emotions after surgery -How support systems impact recovery -What Sarah wishes she had known before surgery About Besties with Breasties & Faith Through Fire Faith Through Fire is a 501c3 Non-Profit.
