Union Minister Anurag Thakur condemned the incident, stating that it reflects a divisive political environment, hindering the celebration of festivals by Hindus. He expressed concern over attempts to harm and kill Hindu sadhus under the state government's guidance. The incident, which took place in Purulia district, has gone viral on social media with a 30-second video circulating widely. The BJP, responding to the incident, criticized the Mamata government. IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya shared the video, questioning the silence of Mamata Banerjee and emphasizing the need to address the brutality against Hindu sadhus. He drew parallels with the 2020 Palghar lynching, stating that under Mamata's rule, terrorists receive state protection while sadhus face violence. The video shared by Malviya captured sadhus en route to Ganga Sagar for Makar Sankranti being stripped and beaten. BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar accused Mamata of silencing the state entirely, stating that law and order have deteriorated. He claimed that the police attempted to relocate sadhus and arranged for them to stay in a specific house, alleging further harassment by the police under Mamata's instructions. Majumdar criticized Mamata's selective politics, citing her refusal to visit the Ram Mandir but readily attending Eid celebrations. He argued that Bengal's Hindus would realize Mamata's purported affection as akin to a butcher's affection for his chicken. The BJP leader asserted that in the future, the party would stand up for sadhus, saints, and the Hindu faith in Bengal. The incident drew attention nationally, with leaders like Swami Chakrapani from the All India Hindu Mahasabha condemning the event and calling for the immediate arrest of the accused under Mamata's administration. The BJP is gearing up to raise the issue further, adding to the political tension in West Bengal.
