I shall not recount the precise details of that abhorrent ritual's performance, if only to once more dissuade the most desperate of readers from being tempted to follow our example. I will only say that I was forced to recourse to the most ancient and blackest of rites, to peer behind the veil of our world and gaze upon the seamy side of existence. A thick fog, which was in essence the altar-smoke of a verdant dimension, materialized into three large, greenish-brown stones. That otherworld changed me forever, and these monstrous alterations I cannot hope to convey upon paper, however much I might wish to share the blood-chilling details. These massive, weighty stones remained our small and only chance for victory against the mighty corpse-devouring god. The surface of the boulders was covered in strange, pulsating symbols that throbbed with a sickly, phosphorescent light. When we bent our faces closer, we perceived a faint, almost imperceptible vapor rising from them—a thick, oily emanation that smelled of something unnameable and alien.
