This video explains what BODMAS is, and how to use the mathematical rule to solve equations. The equation we work through in this example is 5 + (3 + 3)^3 ÷ 4 – 10 x 3. The steps for solving this equation are also shown below: Step 1: Find the brackets we have the equation 3+3 inside a bracket, and we will solve this first. our new equation then becomes = 5 + (6)^3 ÷ 4 – 10 x 3 Step 2: Find the orders/powers we have one order in this equation, 6 to the power of 3, we will solve this now. our new equation then becomes = 5 + 216 ÷ 4 – 10 x 3 Step 3: Find any division/divide signs we have one division sign in this equation, 216 ÷ 4, we will solve this now. our new equation then becomes = 5 + 54 – 10 x 3 Step 4: Find any multiplication/times signs we have one multiplication sign in this equation 10 x 3, we will solve this now our new equation then becomes = 5 + 54 – 30 Step 5: Find any addition/plus signs we have one addition sign in this equation, 5 + 54, we will solve this now our new equation then becomes = 59 – 30 Step 6: Find any subtraction/minus signs we have one minus sign in this equation! 59 - 30 our final answer becomes 29. NOTES 1. If you have more than one of any of the above signs, solve them from left to right. (Refer to second video for an example - • BODMAS tutorial: practice using BODMA... ) 2. If when you look for a sign, there is none in your equation, you can skip to the next step. Have a suggestion for a video you would like me to create? Let me know in the comments!
