China’s Guangdong Province is a place which blends the cultures of central China and those of the peripheral and coastal areas. The region takes its name from the its two main cities of Chaozhou and Shantou. The unique geography and history have bestowed the place with a culture that is not only distinct from its neighbors in Guangdong and the rest of China but also gives a profound influence on some areas in Southeast Asia. This region has its own language, called Teochew or Chiuchow. Teochew is not mutually intelligible with Mandarin or Cantonese, but is partially mutually intelligible with Minnan, spoken across the border in South Fujian. The accent and pronunciation varies slightly between the three main Teochew-speaking cities of Chaozhou, Shantou and Jieyang, but if you are fluent in Teochew, this should not pose too much of a challenge. The prestige dialect of Teochew is the dialect spoken in Chaozhou, though the Shantou dialect has the most speakers. -------------------⭐⭐ Shantou City -------------------⭐⭐ Shantou is situated in the southeastern corner of East Asia, on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean. Boarding on the South Sea, the city is one of the most important open-to-the-world harbors both in the Guangdong Province and in China. As one of the seven special economic zones of China, it uses its convenient geographic location to its advantage and has accepted many foreign investments. It currently has economic relations with 165 countries. Over 50 multinational corporations and 11 of the world's top 500 enterprises have investments in the city, giving the city the seventh best rate of commerce among all cities in China. -------------------⭐⭐ Yingge Dance | Chinese Traditional Warrior Dance | Chinese Battle Dance -------------------⭐⭐ The Yingge dance is a traditional Chinese warrior dance that combines opera, martial arts, and dance.
