When we choose to recognize this truth, even in the hardest moments, we center ourselves in rejoicing rather than resentment. This doesn’t mean ignoring challenges or pretending life is perfect. It means acknowledging God’s sovereignty and goodness regardless of circumstances. Being grateful isn’t a passive feeling that happens by chance. Colossians 4:2 instructs us to “devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Gratitude demands intentionality—setting our hearts and minds to seek God in prayer, staying alert to His presence and provision, and cultivating thankfulness as a spiritual habit.
