The Ripper is Pyranha Kayaks' newest offering in the freeride whitewater kayak market. It goes head to head with the Liquid Logic Braaap and Party Braaap, Dagger Axiom, and Jackson Kayak Antix. Pyranha Kayaks' tag line for the Ripper is "The Ripper takes the #FastIsFun ethos introduced by the 9R, and combines it with a playful stern for an extra dose of adrenaline." As this implies, the legions of 9r fans came to Pyranha and said "We love the Pyranha 9r, but the Liquidlogic Braaap is so much fun. Make us a 9r Braaap!" Beyond the low volume sterns, there are few similarities between the Ripper and the Party Braaap. The Ripper is built around a narrow planing hull with long hard chines, much like the 9r. This gives the Ripper perhaps the most aggressive feeling on the river. The Ripper seems to want to be paddled on edge and charge into features. The stern is as aggressive as the Exo Rexy, or Waka Steeze, with almost no volume. While this makes stern squirts and splats as easy as possible for a 9ft freeride boat, the slightly forward paddler position can create unintentional tail-walking and back enders in holes. Definitely try before you buy, and demo on something you're comfortable paddling in a new ride. Grab one from Moutainman at: https://store.mountainmanoutdoors.com I have been testing whitewater kayaks for Mountainman Outdoor Supply - mountainmanoutdoorsupply.com - for a long time. Here is where you can find my whitewater kayak reviews. I take honest deep dives on every new design to create the best reviews which beginners and advanced paddlers will find helpful. If there is a boat that you would like to see a review for feel free to leave a comment. However, I do my best to get reviews out as soon as I am able. If there is something I haven't done the most likely reason is because I do not have access to it. Help me help you and ask the boat maker to get me a boat to review. We regularly carry Dagger, Pyranha, Jackson, and Liquid Logic. If I can get my hands on boats from other companies (Waka, Zet, Exo, Lettman, etc) I will do my best to put out an initial review.
